Why Become a Christian?

Picture
Why Become a Christian when you could believe in other religions or worldviews? This book describes my struggle to answer these and other questions, such as: Who am I? Where am I going? What must I do to get there?  Trying to keep man-made church rules for more than 20 years did not provide personally meaningful answers. Doing-my-own-thing for more than 10 years trying to Become Self-actualizing proved to be both futile and vain. I needed something else in my life. But what? I knew I needed intellectual faith to make a sound decision, so I would not be led by blind faith to embrace “something else.”

At the age of 36, situations in my life led me to have a saving faith in Jesus Christ as the Way, the Truth and the Life I wanted to live.
Some three decades later, God hounded me to write my story. While doing this, I realized I was describing His Story about me
in a spiritual memoir. In it, I discuss why Christians cannot Be “good” enough nor Behave “good” enough to merit Becoming a Born Again Christian. This only results because of God's Grace when a Christian has a
saving faith in Jesus Christ (who He is and what He did).
saving faith in Jesus Christ (who He is and what He did).
My Spiritual Memoir discusses what occurred when I Became a Born Again Christian – how I was set free from practicing Religious Legalism and from pursuing Humanistic License so I can now experience True Liberty through my relationship with Jesus Christ. This faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior is much more than beliefs about Him. [See excerpts from selected chapters. Also see the Christian Perspective for an overview of Becoming Born Again and subsequent Being-and-Behaving Transformations that enable Believers to Become more than we are.]Most of my Spiritual Memoir discusses what takes place when a person Becomes a Born Again Christian because of saving faith in Jesus Christ (who He is and what He did). For, Christianity is Jesus Christ and Christians are His name-bearers. [See the Christian Perspective for an overview of the free gifts that God provides and subsequent Being-and-Behaving Transformations that enable us to Become more than we are.]

To provide intellectual faith for Christianity and its worldview (Theism)To provide intellectual faith for Christianity and its worldview (Theism)To provide intellectual faith for Christianity, I contrast competing worldviews (Theism, Deism, Naturalism/Humanism, New Age).  I critique the Human Potential Movement and the New Age Movement because so many “seekers” mistakenly believe these Movements will fulfill promises they make – but no Movement can do this. [For more detailed descriptions, click Excerpts from the chapters on Worldviews, on Humanistic Psychology, on New Age.]

At the end of each chapter, I include My Writing Process and Ideas as I answer these important questions: 1) Why write? 2) Who for? 3) What? 4) How? 5) When? 6) Where?  I also share Tips for Writing Your Spiritual Memoir so you will start yours and finish it – with fewer re-writes and less frustration – as you share lessons learned from life, spiritual insights gained from God, and how He has been faithful to you through good times and bad times (Romans 8:28).
